Scholarship Opportunities

In August, 2014, the legal community lost a great friend. Browning Marean, a Partner at DLA Piper US LLP at the time of his death, touched the personal and professional lives of many within the legal sector and certainly within the ILTA community. In honor of Browning’s work in the litigation field and his extraordinary international ambassadorship, ILTA has established two scholarships to ILTACON — one for individuals who live and work in the U.S. and one for those outside the U.S. These scholarships are targeted to professionals who work within the e-discovery/litigation technology and support field.

Anyone from an ILTA member entity that is not a law firm has an opportunity to earn a scholarship to ILTACON 2015, August 31 – September 3, 2015. This scholarship is being sponsored by vendors who are participating in the Law Department and Legal Operations Day event on Monday, August 31st, the first day of ILTACON. The recipient of this year’s scholarship will receive airfare and other travel expenses to attend the event in Las Vegas. Restrictions apply, and the winner will be advised about methods to secure air travel upon notification of the award. Hotel reservations will be made by the ILTA staff, and the registration fee will be covered. In addition, the winner will be provided a small allowance (not to exceed $200) to cover miscellaneous expenses during the event. Applications must be received by June 15.

 

The Application
No later than June 15, 2015, please provide a letter outlining the following:

• Your volunteer activities with ILTA: Be as concise as possible — include your level of activity on the e-groups as well as your attendance at regional meetings, peer group events, webinars, prior conferences, etc. If you were a volunteer leader, please state when and how you served the organization.
• Your reasons for wanting to attend the conference: Let us know what specific benefits you anticipate by attending and how the experience will further your career goals.

The Judging
A panel of your peers (ILTA law department members) will judge the content of the letters and determine this year’s recipient. All applicants will be notified of their status by July 3, 2015.

Your Responsibilities
We ask that you supply information based on the items listed above for the letter of application, meet the submission deadline and volunteer to work at least four hours at the ILTACON member registration desk during the event. We hope you will also write a blog post (or an article) about your experience at ILTACON.

The Sharon Swartworth Annual ILTA Conference Scholarship Program offers our associate participants an opportunity to earn a scholarship to ILTACON 2015. Sharon was a leader who was passionate about educating and involving her team. We honor her memory by offering this program to our members who are seeking employment in the legal profession. The recipient of this year’s scholarship will receive airfare and other travel expenses to attend the event in Las Vegas. Restrictions apply, and the winner will be advised about methods to secure air travel upon notification of the award. Hotel reservations will be made by ILTA staff, and the registration fee will be covered. In addition, the winner will be provided a small allowance (not to exceed $200) to cover miscellaneous expenses during the event.
